Hypoallergenic Foundation Done Easy
Don't give up on makeup if you have allergies or sensitive skin. You can try hypoallergenic foundation.
This makeup should be 100% fragrance free and 100% oil free. I say "should be" because the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has no regulations on the use of the term "hypoallergenic." So the decision of whether or not a cosmetic should be labeled hypoallergenic, is solely up to the manufacturer. The term generally refers to cosmetics that have fewer chemicals in them and are less likely to cause irritation and adverse skin reactions.
The FDA does require that ingredients be listed on labels. So check foundation labels if you know what aggravates your allergies.
DO A PATCH TEST. Test your skin's reaction by applying a dab of foundation on your forearm or some where that can be observed easily (not the face.) Wait 24 hours. If your skin shows no irritation, then try the foundation on your face. If your skin is irritated, wash the product off immediately.
Here are some of the top brands.
1. Clinique: Try Stay-True Makeup Oil-Free Formula
2. Neutrogena: Try Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup Oil-Free
3. Bare Essentials by M.A.C.
4. Mineral makeup: Try Urban Decay Surreal Skin Mineral Makeup Loose Powder
5. Almay: Try Clear Complexion Liquid Makeup
You can also try all natural cosmetics such as Aveda. Just be careful if you have plant allergies.
Please understand that it's impossible to guarantee that a cosmetic or skin care product will never produce an allergic reaction. Some hypoallergenic brands might still cause adverse reactions on some people.
